Clynelish is a distillery near Brora, in the Northern Highlands, along the valley of the river of the same name that flows above Inverness on the North East coast. The proximity to the sea gives the characteristic sea-brackish odors together with the delicate use of peat. Until recently all the distillation flowed into a blend of excellence and the only way to taste samples was to contact independent bottlers. Now Diageo bottles two labels in the distillery, the 14 year old and a Select Reserve. In this version the distillate ages in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry oak barrels, which contribute to giving complexity and softness.
