Terra! Albana Villa Papiano 2021
An exclamation point to indicate with determination and tenacity the desire to express this great Romagna vine with a path that is not exactly common: maceration for 6 months on 35% of the skins and aging in Georgian terracotta amphorae, followed by 6 months of bottle before being put on the market. The grapes come from the same vineyard as Strada Corniolo.
Villa Papiano
Villa Papiano and Modigliana speak of Apennine viticulture: altitude, poor soils, vineyards in the woods are the severe and ideal characteristics that describe us. The history of Villa Papiano begins in the 1400s when these lands ruled by Papiano, lieutenant of the Medici, became a privileged place to control the territory and spread agriculture. The Villa Papiano wine project began in 2001 when the old 1960s vines cultivated on terraces were restructured and taken as a model to develop our idea of wine as a mirror of this territory: wines that speak of flowers and undergrowth, thin, vertical, salty and long-lived. The vineyards extend on the southern slope of Mount Chioda between 530 and 450 m above sea level overlooking the Ibola torrent which marks the less populated and closed valley of Modigliana. “We grow Sangiovese and Albana, in some of our older vineyards, Sangiovese is bred along with other ancient varieties, such as Centesimino, Negretto and Balsamina. We raise sapling vines and low espaliers to take advantage of the heat of the earth. The company is located within a naturalistic oasis, in the preparation of the Casentino forests, where hunting is banned; we believe in organic and sustainable agriculture, favoring the times of nature and nourishing plants with light and affection, compost and corporate green manure ".
