The Alte Reben selection comes from the oldest vineyards of the winery, which extend up to over 60 years of age and grow on a selection of the territorial layer of the Großen Gewächslagen. a masterful wine, comparable to the best Premier Cru. Deep roots that sink into clay and Loess soils, a sediment of very fine particles carried by the wind, enriched by a deeper vein of limestone and shells of ancestral marine origin. The wine is aged in barrels for 18 months after the harvest, 70% of which are new barrels.

Late frosts at the end of April 2017 caused mainly major losses and a 45% lower yield. A changing summer favored a very early harvest until mid-August, but then a rather cold and dry phase began, which gave an incredibly beautiful and wide window for the harvest. A refined, elegant and very crystalline vintage that has developed its strength largely structured in barrique.

Three Senses
If the red fruit appears, sometimes in the form of cherry, sometimes raspberry, it is to open up hints of vanilla and chocolate, tobacco in aging and those mineral notes tending towards smokiness. A true Pinot Noir with character, complex and well structured, barely touched by the wood. Satisfying in its freshness that delicately plays with tannin to leave a very balanced succulence.

Bernhard Huber

Bernhard Huber Cantina

Bernhard Huber stands on the ancient soils that over 700 years ago were chosen by the Cistercian monks to found a curia, the Moenche estate. Brought with the vines of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay which find here an ideal soil, comparable to Burgundy, which alternates profiled layers of calcareous rich in shells with finer, clayey and Loess soils. The permeability of the soil forces the vines to take deep roots, where all the minerality to be brought to the fruit is best gathered. The wines are so appreciated that in the past the Malterdinger period had become synonymous with Pinot Noir in the classic books of the time. Loved and known under this name, the wines were highly sought after in Switzerland, the Allgäu and the Bavarian Danube valley. Today Bernhard Huber can count on a team of young professionals who assist in all phases of the product, from cultivation to bottling, respecting the terroir, grapes, and the course of interventions in wine, bottled without filtration.
