Fedellos do Couto
There are few wine-growing areas in the world as difficult, wild and varied as Ribeira Sacra in Galicia. A scenario of almost vertical slopes, of centuries-old terracing that visually anticipate what is spectacular in the glass. It is no coincidence that Ribeira Sacra is currently one of the most cited areas in the world when it comes to wines of a certain level and not only for the landscape from which they come but for the refreshing complexity that the native varieties such as Mencia, Mouranton, Garnacha Tintorera, Bastardo, Grao Negro, Sousón, Godello, Doña Blanca and Palomino. The climate has changed over time: the area is repopulating after a mass emigration to the big cities in the seventies, today there is more gentle and constant rain with temperature variations and winds that make everything look more like a continental / Mediterranean climate than Atlantic, an area that is becoming more and more interesting for young producers.
And it is precisely here that the Fedellos do Couto project was born in 2013. Jesùs Olivares & Curro Bareño after studying oenology find themselves working for Sierra de Gredos with Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia. This experience teaches them, among many things, that only things that are not obvious, unknown and difficult are really worth it. Struck by a desire to rediscover their land, they return to Galicia and together with Luis Taboada Fedellos do Couto, they founded a project whose main philosophy is based on the mutual exchange between man and nature with the utmost respect for everything related to it.
