Cascina Fontana
“For me, Barolo is not just a wine. It is part of my culture and my identity, it tells me who I am and where I come from. When I drink a glass , I always remember my grandfather. Barolo, in fact, seems to encapsulate something of the spirit of the true Langa man. It has the same strength, the same dignity and that character, which at the same time comes across as stern, austere and honest.” (Mario)
The Cascina Fontana farm is located in the heart of the Barolo area, in Perno, a small hamlet in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, about 15 kilometers from the town of Alba. The Fontana family has a tradition for growing vines and making wine that has now spanned six generations.
Today Mario Fontana continues this tradition, overseeing the entire production cycle, from the vineyard to the production of the wine, taking careful and meticulous care of the work in the cellar. There are 7 hectares of vineyards that Mario and Luisa Fontana cultivate, and the varieties are the most classic of the Langhe area: nebbiolo, dolcetto, barbera and freisa. The vineyards are located in some of the best production areas and in particular in the towns of Castiglione Falletto, La Morra, Sinio and Monforte D'Alba.
In the vineyard, Mario's approach is based on minimizing intervention as much as possible so that he can obtain wines that are an expression of the characteristics of the land of origin. And the same goal is pursued in the winery during the process of vinification and subsequent aging of the wines.
