The steep hill of Rangen dominates the village of Than and corresponds to the Grand Cru area more & ugrave; to the south of Alsace, here in 1977 the company bought the vineyard of Clos Saint Urbain. This territory was already there; cited for the excellence of its wines in the 13th century and therefore disputed between the different communities; religious (the Dominican friars of Basel, the abbey of Masmunster, the convent of Saint Ursitz and the Cistercian abbey of Haute Sielle in the Moselle). Rich in convents and religious structures, this area was a popular destination for pilgrims, visited by believers from half of Europe (Germany, England, Scandinavia, & hellip;) which contributed to popularizing its popularity. Soils have & nbsp; complexity & agrave; very particular and unique, they are made up of rocks and volcanic sediments (lava), a layer of about 50 centimeters in whose cracks the vine penetrates in depth, lands that preserve a high temperature. The very high slopes that reach up to 70% imposed a terraced culture. Facing south it allows a slow maturation of the grapes, here the grapes are harvested between October and November with a very high level of concentration. On the totality of almost 19 hectares the company Zind-Humbrecht today grows in the Rangen approximately 5.5 hectares where are born Riesling (2.9 ha.), Pinot gris (2.1 ha.) and Gewurztraminer (0.5 ha.) of very high personality

Zind Humbrecht

Located in Turckheim, is a clos of small dimensions, in effect the area is extended in 1,3 hectar of land (1.3 ha.). It is oriented toward south, thanks to the high slopes, and to the highness that is between 190 and 250 masl. It is situated in a marnous calcareous area, it benefits from a very hot and incredibly early micro-climate, well protected from the north winds from the Brand's Hill. A territory with great aptitude to the development of the noble mold.
