Unique product of the distillery in honor of whiskey historian Alfred Barnard, who tasted an 8-year-old Lagavulin in 1880 and was thrilled. The label bears the name of the Port Ellen distillery, founded in 1816 by John Johnston, which has now become an icon of Scottish Whiskey and the Isle of Islay. Bottled in Cask Strength to maintain the purity of the aromas, it is a whiskey aged in American ex-bourbon and European ex-sherry barrels.
Three Senses
Decidedly drier than the famous 16 year old, the nose expresses notes of chocolate with citrus peel, leading to the fresh fragrance of black tea, cereals and a hint of smoke and marine. Initially delicate on the palate, it remains soft, smoky and warm, almost pungent. In the very clean finish one recognizes the characteristic peatiness of Lagavulin.
Lagavulin
