Controcorrente by Vaira Aurelj is a red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes of the Rosé clone. The vineyards have an average age of 22 years and are planted on calcareous clay soil.

After manual harvesting in 25kg crates, the vinification of Controcorrente involves crushing part of the grapes with the stalks (a variable percentage in each vintage). Fermentation takes place in steel tanks with temperature control. Subsequent pressing of the pomace takes place with a minimum pressure of 0.3bar.

Controcorrente ages for a period of 6 months in exhausted Slavonian barrels, followed by another 6 months in the bottle.

Az. Agr. Vaira Francesco - Vergne

Vaira Aurelj

Azienda Agricola Vaira Francesco is located in Vergne, in the area between the municipalities of Barolo, La Morra and Narzole.

The two brothers Francesco and Giacomo, founders of the winery, inherited their passion for vines and wine from their father.
The few hectares of land have a southeast and southwest exposure and they are located at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. Their composition is characterized by the presence mainly of limestone and clay.
Francesco and Giacomo's goal is to create quality wines that, from field to bottle, find no interference with chemistry.
