The Crissante winery was founded in 1958 when Crissante Alessandria, together with his wife Teresa, decided to vinify the grapes from the family’s vineyards, which until then had been sold to the most important wineries in the Langa region.
Everything began at the estate in Santa Maria (La Morra), with the vinification of the family’s Nebbiolo grapes from the Capalot and Roggeri crus, blended together.
Over the following years, the winery grew and acquired new vineyards in the municipality of La Morra. At the same time, the winemaking philosophy also changed: no longer blends, but a separate vinification of the Capalot, Roggeri, and, since 2007, the Galina crus. Today, the family’s vineyards cover about 6 hectares and are managed by Alberto.
The winemaking process is predominantly traditional, with long fermentations, pump overs and manual punch downs, and aging in oak containers of small, medium, and large sizes, carefully balanced. Wood plays a fundamental role, as it is considered essential to achieving the best possible result.
