Radikon - Gorizia (GO)

Radikon

To speak of Radikon is to trace a timeline that is not merely a chronology, but a genuine evolution of global winemaking thought. It all began way back in 1861, with roots running deep in a contested and precious land, but it was in 1980 that Stanko Radikon’s vision transformed a subsistence farm into a cutting-edge laboratory.

With the 1979 vintage, Stanko broke the mould: low yields, obsessive care and the first bottlings of Pinot Grigio, Ribolla and that Tocai we now know as Jakot. From here, Radikon’s journey became an unceasing quest for the truth of the grape variety, passing through the introduction of barriques in the 1980s and the birth of historic blends such as Oslavje, right up to the definitive revolution of 1995. It was in that year that Ribolla Gialla encountered extended maceration, marking a point of no return that would lead, in 2002, to a radical decision: three months of contact with the skins, the complete abandonment of added sulphur dioxide, and the introduction of the iconic half-litre and one-litre formats, with a cork designed to stand the test of time.

With the arrival of Saša, this legacy has been enriched with new nuances without ever compromising the identity of the Gorizia ‘ponca’. The S Line was born, featuring the Pinot Grigio Sivi and the Slatnik, which explore shorter maceration periods to offer a different kind of freshness, whilst retaining that unmistakable artisanal character. Stanko’s passing in 2016 left an immense legacy in the hands of the family, who have continued to interpret an evolving climate with experimentation and courage.

Today, the journey is completed by the energy of Ivana and the launch of the POP line, a White and a Red that look beyond traditional boundaries, offering an immediate drinking experience and a dynamic style, perfectly reflecting a winery that is, at the same time, both the historical memory and the vibrant future of natural wine. Every bottle of Radikon thus remains a manifesto of resistance and freedom, a sip that makes no compromises with the standardisation of taste.
