J. Laurens
Jacques Calves, originally from the Aude Pyrenees near Limoux, has been running the estate for many years now.
He introduces himself as follows: "My farming upbringing taught me the value of simplicity and a commitment to hard work. In 2000, I sold my business and decided to return to my roots. My interest in wine, my farming background, my inclination towards developing a small-scale operation and my experience in exports naturally led me to take over the small vineyard that was already producing quality sparkling wines: Domaine J. Laurens.”
J. Laurens is a winery in Languedoc-Roussillon that has now become a benchmark for the region’s Crémants. It all began in the 1980s, when Michel Dervin, a great lover of Champagne, recognised the immense potential of the Limoux region. In 2002, Jacques Calves, a Swiss entrepreneur but a native of Limoux and a passionate wine lover, took over the business. His aim was to build on Michel Dervin’s excellent work and continue producing high-quality wines.
Thanks to a united, motivated and dedicated team, which has grown and become more established as the estate has developed, we have achieved great results. ‘I have taken great satisfaction in making J.Laurens a benchmark in the quality sparkling wine sector.’
‘The next challenge – and it is no small one – is adapting to climate change, whilst respecting the environment, so that we can leave the land as healthy as possible for future generations.’
