The Rosso production area is located in the Verzella district on the north side of Etna, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia (Ct) at an altitude of 700 m asl.
The climate is that of high hills, with significant changes in temperature between day and night.
The soil is predominantly sandy, volcanic, rich in minerals with a subacid reaction.
The Nerello Mascalese vine (Negrello), raised in alberello is the main native vine. It has a large, medium, compact bunch, medium-sized berry, light blue skin, very pruinose, with a sweet, very tannic flavor. Nerello Cappuccio or Mantellato is always raised in alberello and has a medium, short, compact bunch, medium berry, blue-black skin, with a sweet, slightly tannic taste.
The average age of the vineyards is 40 years.
