Vino e Visciole del Cardinale
Le Cantine del Cardinale
In the heart of the Castelli di Jesi, the Cardinali family guards a secret steeped in history and the earth. Heirs to an ancient recipe dating from the mid-19th century, Amalia, Giovanni and their children Luca, Giselle and Cristiano transform Prunus cerasus (Austera variety) into a sensory experience that transcends the simple concept of a dessert wine.
Historically, this nectar was the gallant gift for ladies and the secret pleasure of the clergy, who called it ‘Wine of the Angels’. Conversely, peasant wisdom provocatively called it ‘Witch’s Blood’, sipping it on special occasions and attributing legendary aphrodisiac properties to it. A dualism that still makes every sip magnetic and mysterious today.
For the Cardinali family, making visciola wine means showing gratitude to the sea and the weather, which have shaped the hills of the Marche region, making them the ideal natural habitat for the spontaneous growth of these sour cherries. Their mission is clear: to preserve an ancient flavour, guaranteeing a rare quality born of absolute respect for the raw material.
The result is a vibrant drink, a full-bodied and heartfelt aromatised wine, capable of conveying the nobility and authenticity of an entire region.
