A less well-known whiskey outside the local Japanese market, this version of Akashi is produced specifically for the European market using a blend of Japanese and foreign wheat and malt whiskey to produce a daily blend at reasonable prices. Aged in Hogshead barrels aged 3 to 4 years. The White Oak distillery was founded in 1888 but has been producing whiskey in the traditional way and in small quantities only since 1919. The actual distillation process began instead in 1984, in which the company has set up a new plant. Before then, all the whiskey produced was used in a variety of blends known as white quescia. The distillery belongs to the Eigashima company, established in 1679 and one of the oldest sake producers in Japan, in the city of Akashi.
